Bountiful, Viewmont and Davis pick up two wins each this week

Bountiful

Top-ranked Bountiful dominated Bonneville 67-28 Feb. 5, getting out to a 37-12 lead by halftime and then adding another 30 points in the second half in the win.

Milika Satuala put up 22 points to lead the way while Taylor Harvey added 14. Others scoring for the Redhawks were Abby Orme and Mae Johnson (eight points), Charlotte Johnson (seven), Adelaide Stevenson and Anna Larson (three) and Maelah Nelson (two).

Against Clearfield Feb. 7, the Redhawks won 42-35, separating themselves just slightly in the third quarter which proved the difference in the game.

Harvey scored 19 points to lead Bountiful with Mae Johnson (nine points), Satuala and Stevenson (six) and Charlotte Johnson also scored in the win. 

The Redhawks remain undefeated through 12 Region 5 matchups this season and are 18-2 overall.

Viewmont

Viewmont defeated Woods Cross 44-34 Feb. 5. The Vikings went up 22-8 at the break and then held off the Wildcats in the second half.

“It was a good win,” said assistant coach Brooke Anderson. 

Mary Carr topped the scoring with 19 points and completed a double-double with 11 rebounds to go with four assists. Callie Peterson added nine points, four rebounds and four steals while Mara Mickelson had eight points six rebounds. Others providing offense in the win were Kelsey Lindsey (four points) and Annie Layton and Sophie Gold (two).

Against Northridge Feb. 7, Viewmont won 36-33 in overtime. The Vikings held the Knights scoreless over the first eight minutes but then were down by four at the break. An even second-half led to the extra time where Viewmont outscored Northridge 7-4 to end the game.

“It was a close game, but we came out with the win,” said Anderson. 

Carr again led the team with 12 points – while grabbing 10 boards and blocking three shots –with Peterson putting in 10, pulling in nine rebounds and assisting on five shots. Lindsey added seven points and four steals with Kailey Selleneit, Layton and Gold scoring two points each and Mickelson one.

The Vikings are now 9-3 in the Region 5 standings and 14-7 this year.

Davis

Davis defeated Layton 44-41 Feb. 4. The Darts had a one-point edge at the break but scored just six points in the third quarter to go into the final quarter down six points. A 19-11 advantage in the fourth helped Davis pull out the win.

T’Maea Eteutai led the team with 18 points while Kate Willard was also in double figures with 10. Lydia Tarbet and Mari Nichols added six points with Aubrey Simons scoring four and Chloe Peery two.

Against Syracuse Feb. 7, the Darts edged the Titans 39-38, coming back from being down all game to win the fourth quarter 14-9 and pull out the victory.

Eteuati again led the way with 13 points with Willard (eight points), Peery (seven), Nichols (four), Simons (three), Emy Richards (two) and Kiara Zwonitzer (one) making up the rest of the offense in the win.

Davis improved to 6-2 in the Region 1 standings and are 14-5 this year.

Farmington

Farmington lost to Fremont 57-28 Feb. 4. The Phoenix squad struggled offensively in the first half, scoring just six points – to the Silverwolves’ 27 – before putting in more over the final 16 minutes but the damage was done in the loss.

Makelle Weber was the top scorer for Farmington with 11 points while Morgan Rogers (six points), Katie Myers (five), Ellie Dorius (four) and Brooklyn Romney (two) also provided some offense.

Against Layton Feb. 7, Farmington won 46-36, turning a two-point halftime deficit into a five-point advantage heading into the final quarter before outscoring the Lancers 14-9 to finish off the win.

Olive Wayland and Emilie Figlioli were both in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Also scoring in the win were Weber (eight points), Ellie Schow (seven), Rogers (five) and Morgan Snell and Myers (two).

The Phoenix squad is now 3-5 in Region 1 and 10-10 on the season.

Woods Cross

In its 10-point loss against Viewmont Feb. 5, Woods Cross managed just eight points in the first half before putting up 26 over the final 16 minutes, but it wasn’t enough.

Adia Cook and Ili Crockett combined for 20 points in the loss with Grace MacArthur (seven points), Kiyomi Tauataina (four), Lucy Thompson (two) and Kaylee Abell (one) also scoring.

Against Roy Feb. 7, the Wildcats won 58-30, dominating from the outset and getting up 32-16 by halftime before scoring 26 more second-half points to pull away further.

MacArthur and Cook both scored 21 points in the big win while Tauataina and Sophia Burden added five, Thompson four and Mary Gilbert two.

Woods Cross is 7-5 in Region 5 and has a 13-8 season mark.
