Viewmont

Viewmont High senior Isaac Hale won the 50 freestyle in “dominating fashion,” according to head coach Jessica Traunor, at the 5A state championships Feb. 15 at Brigham Young University, leading the Vikings boys to a fifth-place finish out of 28 teams. He broke his own school record in the event, with a time of 20.89 and was also part of the second-place 200 freestyle relay squad of junior Henry Helgesen, senior Thomas Chamberlain and senior Andrew Webster and the fourth-place 400 free relay lineup of the same four swimmers, and came in eighth in the 100 breaststroke.

“We had a strong showing,” said Traunor.

Chamberlain broke his own school record in the 200 IM – with a swim of 1:57.44 – to take seventh in the event as the youngest in the field while also placing third in the 500 free.

Other finalists at state were Helgesen (fifth, 100 breast) and Webster (seventh, 100 free).

The Vikings B relay of John Paul Decker, Austin Smith, Gus Stockhoff and Landon Hopfenbeck also earned points in the medley relay.

For the girls, Veronika Paschen scored points in the 50 free and Izzy Harris in the 100 and 200 free events. Vivienne Loose and Kylee Smith set personal bests in the 200 free relay which brought home more points. “All four are seniors and did a wonderful job representing the Viewmont Vikings this season,” Traunor said.

On the leading leg of the 400 free relay, Glissmeyer set a school record for her 100 free split, with a time of 53.95.

Senior Ammon Kamauu was the lone placer for the 16th-place boys team as he came in to eight in top events. In the 500 free, he was fifth and then seventh in the 200 free, he set a new school record with a swim of 1:47.27.
