Viewmont
Viewmont defeated Bonneville 35-20 Feb. 12, pulling away further from a six-point halftime lead with a 12-7 third quarter run.
“The girls had a good game,” said assistant coach Brooke Anderson, noting that Mary Carr is now atop the school record board with 31 blocks in a season that is still going.
Mara Mickelson drained five three-pointers, scoring 17 points while pulling down nine rebounds and grabbing five steals. Carr recorded a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds to go with two blocks.
Annie Layton put in the Vikings’ other three points.
Against Clearfield Feb. 14 – on senior night – Viewmont lost 36-35. The Vikings had a one-point lead at half but were outscored 15 to 8 in the third quarter and then rallied to get close, but their efforts fell just short.
“It was a hard-fought game for the girls,” Anderson said. “We had a good night celebrating our seniors and all they’ve done for us!”
Viewmont closed out Region 5 with a 10-4 record and an overall 15-8 regular season showing.

Woods Cross
Woods Cross beat Northridge 53-41 in overtime Feb. 12. In a back-and-forth affair, the Wildcats came back from seven points down in the fourth quarter to force overtime. In the extra period Woods Cross outscored the Knights 13 to 1 in the big win.
“This game was full of ups and downs,” head coach David Simon said. “Northridge is always a tough team for us to play. Their coach does a great job with them. Our team just kept playing hard to the very end. If we wouldn’t have I don’t think we would have come out with the win.”
Grace MacArthur and Adia Cook both scored 14 points with Ili Crockett (11 points) and Kiyomi Tauataina (10) also in double figures. Lucy Thompson and Sophia Burden added the final four points.
“We made some very crucial plays in the last part of the game to even get the game to overtime,” Simon said. “We ran some plays for Grace who was able to get a basket and a free throw which tied the game late in the fourth quarter. They made two free throws with nine seconds left to take the lead. We ran a play and executed it perfectly to get the ball to Grace who made a shot inside the key to tie it again. In overtime, Adia scored six of her 14 points and Ili scored 7 of her 11 as we outscored them 13-1. We battled our way through a little bit of foul trouble and the girls did an amazing job to get this win.”
In the loss against Bountiful Feb. 14, the Wildcats hung with the Redhawks early – going down just 17 to 12 before Bountiful scored nearly 40 over the next two quarters to put the game out of reach.
Crockett and MacArthur combined for 26 of the team’s 34 points with Mersadie Carroll (five points) and Burden (three) accounting for the other eight in the loss.
Woods Cross closed out Region 5 with an 8-6 record and were 14-9 on the year.

Farmington
In Farmington’s loss to Davis Feb. 11, the Phoenix squad battled back from scoring just two points during the first quarter to get within two points entering the final frame. But, it was enough in the seven-point loss.
“We were so close yet so far away,” said assistant coach Hilary Noel. “Hats off to Davis. They hit their free throws and made shots late in the game. Our girls always play hard and last night was no different. This young team continues to learn and grow,” Noel said. “We are impressed with the progress they have made this season.”
Makelle Weber scored nine points to lead Farmington with Morgan Rogers (eight points), Emilie Figlioli (seven), Ellie Schow (five), Olive Wayland and Breklyn Archibald (four) and Katie Myers (three) also providing offense.
Against Syracuse Feb. 14, the Phoenix team lost 47-19. After being down 18-10 at halftime, managed just two points in the third quarter to go into the final frame down 26 in the big loss.
Brooklyn Romney was Farmington’s leading scorer with six points while Ellie Dorius scored four, Figlioli three and Schow two.
“We struggled to score and were no match for their size and experience,” Noel said. “Syracuse is a good team. We wish them the best in the upcoming tournament.”
The Phoenix ended up 3-7 in Region 1 and 10-12 heading into the 6A state playoffs, where No. 14 Farmington will face No. 3 Westlake in the second round Feb. 20 – with both teams receiving first round byes.
