The Bountiful boys basketball team suffered a rough end to an otherwise outstanding season.

The Redhawks struggled in the Class 5A state quarterfinals against fourth-seeded Highland, falling 74-53 in the Feb. 25 game, held on the campus of the University of Utah in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Bountiful’s loss concluded the 2024–25 season for the Redhawks, who compiled a 20-5 record.

Bountiful, seeded fifth in the tournament, fell behind 34-24 at halftime to the Rams, who tied defending 5A champion Olympus for the Region 6 title. Highland then blew the game open with a dominant 23-7 third quarter. Down, 57-31 after three quarters, Bountiful had far too big of a hill to climb. The Redhawks struggled from the floor, making 21 of 54 shots. Meanwhile, the Rams were on fire, making 27 of 45 field goals.

Bryson Heath scored 11 points to lead Bountiful. Lincoln Smith scored 10 points, while Charlie Smith contributed nine points. Wyatt Crane had seven points and recorded five steals.

The Redhawks celebrated a Region 5 championship and had won eight games in a row coming into the contest. The defeat at the hands of Highland was déjà vu for the Redhawks. A year ago, Bountiful fell to Highland 65-59 in the 5A quarterfinals.

Bountiful advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating region rival Woods Cross in the second round on Feb. 21 by the count of 69-50. The Redhawks outscored Woods Cross in every quarter and made 10 more field goals than the Wildcats. Charlie Smith paced Bountiful with 17 points and 11 rebounds, recording his third double-double of the season. Aisake Willis scored a season-high 15 points and added six rebounds in the win. Lincoln Smith and Bryson Heath each scored 11 points to bolster Bountiful’s performance. Heath dished out a team-high five assists as well.

The second-round victory marked the second win in seven days over Woods Cross for the Redhawks. Bountiful ended the regular season with a 62-54 victory over the Wildcats, which avenged a 59-55 loss to Woods Cross on Jan. 22, the Redhawks’ only region loss of the season.

Despite exiting the playoffs earlier than players and coached had hoped, the Redhawks had a noteworthy season. The 20 wins were the most the program won since posting 22 victories during the 2014–15 season, a campaign in which the Redhawks won the Class 4A state title. The five losses were the fewest Bountiful had since dropping only one contest in 2013–14, another state championship season for the team.

Three Redhawks averaged in double figures in points this season. Heath led the team with a 15-point average, while Charlie Smith and Lincoln Smith averaged 12.6 and 12.5 a game, respectively. Charlie Smith’s 5.7 rebounds an outing was best on the team. He also had a team-high 62 three-pointers this past season. Lincoln Smith’s 2.7 assists a contest led the Redhawks. Davey Howe averaged 8.9 points per game, and Wyatt Crane had a per-game scoring average of 6.5 points.

The returning Redhawks players will be back on the court for the team this November when the 2025–26 season gets underway.
