The Davis High softball team returns several experienced players from a co-Region 1 championship team who was top six in the state last spring. Junior pitcher Serena Roth and junior shortstop Jewel Korth headline the Darts squad which also features six other key players in senior third baseman Hadlee Isaacs, senior outfielder Libby Miller, senior first baseman Katie Klaumann, junior outfielder Chloe Peery, junior second basement Adelyn Turpin and sophomore pitcher Cambell Christensen. Some ones to watch also include junior catcher Riley Jaques, junior first basement/pitcher Ella Nielson, sophomore catcher Alivia King and freshman outfielder Nora Sunderland.
“We are looking forward to a great year of softball at Davis,” said head coach Todd Street, who is in his sixth year. “The girls have worked very hard and show improvement. If we can remain humble and hungry, we can have a great year.”
To begin the season, the Darts lost 1-0 in extra innings to Bear River March 4 despite 11 strikeouts from Roth. “It was a tough battle,” Street said. “We could not get our bats going. Serena pitched well, and we played well in the field. However, we did not get any hits. Tough to win a game like that. We hope to get a little better each game.”
In the March Warm-Up Elite March 7-8, Davis defeated Manti 7-5, Grantsville 11-0, Hurricane 13-0 and lost to West Jordan 9-4 and Cyprus 4-3.
Korth led the team this weekend with eight RBIs while Peery and Jaques each added five and Turpin, Miller, Klauman and senior outfielder Sophia Slouf drove in three runs each. Roth and Christensen combined for 28 strikeouts on the mound over the five games.
Also on the 2025 squad are senior Brynlee Beckstrand; juniors Koryn Mafi and Olivia Slouf; sophomores Presley Bangerter, Avery Cosentino, Hannah Garlock and Rosalie Hartley; and freshmen Scout Black, Summer Mendoza and Ellie Ryan.
Davis is also scheduled to face Bingham, Herriman, Pleasant Grove, Bountiful, Viewmont, Ridgeline, Hunter, Copper Hills and Logan as well as Region 1 home-and-away games with Syracuse, Fremont, Roy, Layton, Weber and Farmington.
“We’re trying to get a little better each day, taking one game at a time and continuing to improve throughout the year,” said Street.
