Three key seniors are back from a top-10 Davis High boys volleyball squad to lead second-year coach McKay Barker’s squad this season.
Seniors outside hitter Luke McKnight, outside hitter/middle blocker Chase Valentine and middle blocker Jackson Kuma along with senior right side hitter/setter Siona Faemani and junior setter Jack Bennett look to be notable contributors for the Darts this spring.
Barker encouraged her players to get in the gym and play as much volleyball as possible during the offseason. “Boys volleyball is such a young sport and we need players with experience and game knowledge to win our region and compete with the top teams in the state,” she said.
Also on the 2025 squad are seniors Hayden Baughman, Zach Geckler, Jake McCauley, Gavin Morrell, Austin Nelson, Liam Shiner, Brandon Sims and Jace Taula; juniors Jacob Downs, Britton Ebert and Chase Finlinson; sophomores Joshua Byers, Conner Combe, Bronson Edwards, Miles Edwards, Austin Jacobs, Ira Kent and Camden Torrez; and freshmen Jonah Baughman, Abraham Clark, Nate McKnight and Thomas Pruess.
Barker is being assisted on the coaching staff by Mckell Moss, Jared Edwards, Dalton Kohl and Jackson Kohl.
In its first match of the season, Davis lost to Bountiful 25-21, 25-13, 25-19. Valentine had 12 kills and three aces with Sims running the offense with nine assists. On defense, McKnight and Bare recorded 12 and 11 digs, respectively, in the loss.
Against Clearfield March 6, the Darts won 25-20, 25-23, 26-24 behind 11 kills from Valentine, four aces from McKnight and 13 assists by Faeamani while McKnight led on defense with 11 digs.
Davis will also play Mountain Ridge, Lone Peak, Morgan and Ridgeline before Region 1 home-and-away matches against Weber, Farmington, Syracuse, Fremont and Layton.
