#3 Bountiful starts off Region 5 play with win

Bountiful
Third-ranked Bountiful shut out Viewmont 9-0 Mar. 11. The scoring was over by the fourth inning with the game well out of hand.
Ella Miller struck out 12 Vikings batters to pick up the win on the mound. Isabeau Hoff led the offense with five RBIs with Claire Yates, McKinley Duryea and Aspen Danner each driving in a run in the win.
Games against Northridge and Riverton were cancelled due to weather this week.
The Redhawks improved to 5-1 and 1-0 in Region 5 so far this spring.
Viewmont
In Viewmont’s loss to Bountiful, London Dickerson recorded five strikeouts of Redhawks batters.
The Vikings’ game against Northridge was cancelled this week.
At the Dixie Sunshine Classic Mar. 14-15, Viewmont defeated White Pine, Nev.1 11-1, Milford 13-4 and Page, Ariz. 14-0 while losing to Morgan 13-5 and Dixie 8-2.
Juniors Raegyn Dahlke and Ricki Smith each drove in nine runs to lead the Vikings offense this weekend while freshman London Dickerson, junior Marlee Moser and senior Karli Dickerson each had five RBIs. London Dickerson went 3-1 on the mound. Also driving in runs for Viewmont were senior Emi Jones (two), sophomore Betty Cluff (two), junior Grace Leavitt (one), junior Peyton Burningham (one) and freshman Lilly Gappmayer (one).
The Vikings are now 3-5 overall and 0-2 in Region 5 play.
Farmington
Farmington lost to Mountain Ridge 16-4 Mar. 11. In the late innings, the Phoenix squad narrowed the deficit to 8-2 before the Sentinels added eight more runs to put the game away.
Lola Ogzewalla, Kiley Gazafy and Ruby Andrus each drove in a run in the loss.
Against Green Canyon Mar. 12, Farmington won 11-7. The Phoenix went up 7-0 after three innings and had the game well in hand before giving up five runs late in the four-run win.
Sophia Strong and Meghan Fields each recorded three RBIs with Brooklyn Wright (two RBIs) and Ruby Andrus and Morgan Rogers (one) each driving in runs. Fields and Lill Thopham combined for six strikeouts on the mound in pitching the team to a win.
Farmington is now 1-2 this year.
Davis
Davis lost to Bingham 5-1 March 11. The Darts were down 5-0 early and only managed to get on the board in the sixth inning but it wasn’t enough in the loss.
“We played well most of the game, but came up short with our hitting in the clutch,” said head coach Todd Street. “We are playing the best teams in the state, and we are in need of making a couple more plays in the field and a couple more plays at the plate in order to end up on the winning side. It will come if we keep working hard!”
Serena Roth struck out nine Miners batters in the loss while Cambell Christensen drove in Davis’ lone run.
Davis has a 3-4 record early in the season.
Woods Cross
Woods Cross lost to Bonneville 5-2 Mar. 11. The Wildcats got on the board first, but the Lakers added to a 3-2 lead with two late runs in the loss.
Bree Benson pitched a complete game, striking out four Bonneville batters and giving up no walks. Tina Tuakiapimahu went 2-for-3 to drive in Woods Cross’ two runs with Audrey Ayala crossing the plate for both of those runs. Rylee Feller also went 2-for-3 at the plate in the loss.
Against Roy Mar. 12, the Wildcats won 13-6. The Royals struck first before coming back with seven runs through the next three innings. Woods Cross then gave up four runs in the fourth inning to close the gap to just a 7-5 lead, but the Wildcats were able to add six runs at the end to pull out the win.
Benson again pitched a complete game – with seven strikeouts and one walk – while Tuakiapimahu again led offensively with three RBIs. Feller also drove in three runs with Audrey Ayala going 3-for-5 with a double and stolen base to bring in two runs, Whitney Winegar’s 2-for-2 plate appearance resulting in two RBIs. Other production at the plate came from Kaylee Moen who went 2-for-3 with a double and Kailah Feliciano who was 2-for-3.
Woods Cross is now 2-1 this season overall and 1-1 in the Region 5 standings.
