After contending with poor weather for the first few weeks of the season, high school baseball teams are excited for April when spring-like weather is usually more consistent.
April is also when region action will heat up.
Woods Cross
In non-region games through March 24, Woods Cross had picked up three victories in five outings. The Wildcats most recently earned a 6-5 win over Class 6A foe Davis, prevailing in a 10-inning marathon. The Wildcats broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the 10th by scoring the game-winning run to improve to 3-2. Heston White had five strikeouts and was the winning pitcher. Woods Cross got a double from Beau Blackwell and RBIs from Stetson Critchley and Jackson Bodily, along with two RBIs from Camden Olsen.
Woods Cross hosted Orem on Tuesday, after our press deadline, before heading to the Ryan Lemmon Tournament in Irvine, California, March 29 – April 2.
Viewmont
After five games, the Vikings were 2-3 overall. Their first Region 5 game will be April 7 at Box Elder.
Viewmont’s most recent action was March 24 at Davis. Unlike Woods Cross, which took down the Darts, the Vikings had some trouble with their foe. Viewmont lost 15-7, allowing 12 hits to Davis. The Darts scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to turn an 11-7 advantage into a more formidable eight-run deficit for Viewmont. Kade Marriot and Aden Garcia had two RBI apiece for the Vikings, while Spencer Rees had one. Caleb Buttle had two strikeouts for Viewmont.
The Vikings will join Woods Cross at the Ryan Lemmon Tournament in California for the team’s next action.
Bountiful
Heading into its March 26 game at home against Weber, Bountiful had four more non-region games remaining before beginning league play.
The Redhawks are looking for improvement.
Bountiful was 1-5 as of our press time, picking up a 10-4 win at home over Grantsville on March 20. The Redhawks have had some struggles outside of that win, though its last two losses were competitive. Bountiful fell at home to Olympus on March 21 by the count of 10-7 and then lost at Mountain Crest, 6-2, on March 24.
On April 7, Bountiful begins Region 5 play when it hosts Roy for the first of three consecutive games against the Royals.
Davis
Region 1’s Davis is 4-2 as of our press time heading into a clash with Corner Canyon on March 25.
The Darts’ recent games with Region 5 and fellow Davis County foes Woods Cross and Viewmont were their most recent. In the win over Viewmont, Brody McGuire was an offensive powerhouse, hitting a home run and recording five RBI. Jaxon Marble was far behind. He hit a home run and drove in four other runs. Carter Garrett hit two doubles, and Wally Grant hit one of his own while also driving in two runs.
Davis has reached double digits in scoring three times this season. The Darts also had 18 runs in a 10-run victory over Bountiful in the season opener on March 8. They also defeated Copper Hills 10-2 on March 22.
Davis plays at Maple Mountain on Wednesday, followed by a contest at American Fork on Friday.
Farmington
The Phoenix are coming off an 11-18 season and have had a challenging start to the 2025 campaign.
The Phoenix are 2-6 overall and are coming off a 9-1 setback at Lone Peak on March 22. Farmington’s most recent victory was on March 21 when it outlasted Westlake 4-2. In that win, Farmington and Westlake were tied at 2-2 after six innings. The Phoenix scored twice in the top of the seventh and that kept the Thunder off the board in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory. Josh Hecht had a good day on the mound. The pitcher got the win and struck out seven batters. Brody Rolfson, Max Pearson and Easton Hunt each had an RBI.
Farmington hosted Herriman on Tuesday, after our press deadline. Next up is a game at Box Elder on Friday.
