There’s some history being made this spring by the Viewmont High track teams. Athletes are setting new school records while competing at meets from Pocatello to St. George to New York City.

Coach Trent Hooper said “we are rewriting records and the team is having some really strong results.”

Lexi Toronto took down the Viewmont High record in the 800 meters by a full two seconds at the Simplot Meet at Idaho State earlier this month. Then at indoor nationals in New York City, she lowered it again, setting the new mark at 2:13. At that same national meet in the Big Apple, the boys and girls teams both took fifth place in the 1600 relays to earn All American honors.

In St. George at the Pine View Invitational last week, Alyssa Clayton set school records in both the 1600 and 3200 meters, breaking marks set eight years ago.

Hooper, who coaches the distance events for track as well as cross country in the fall, said the Vikings are having great starts as they gear up for the outdoor season that is now underway. Upcoming meets include the Taylorsville Invitational on April 5, the Davis High Invitational on April 19, the BYU on May 2-3, and the state finals at BYU May 15-17
