Boys soccer: Bountiful off to great start; Region 1 games kicking off

Mar 27, 2025 02:16PM ● By Josh McFadden

A consistent offense has helped the Bountiful boys soccer team off to a perfect start in Region 5.

The 5-1 Redhawks have won five of their first six games, including all three of their Region 5 contests entering a March 25 clash with Viewmont on the road. Bountiful registered at least two goals in every game up to this point and scored three or more goals in four of the six outings. The team’s only loss through six opportunities came in the March 6 season opener against Mountain Ridge when the Redhawks fell in a shootout after a 3-3 score following regulation and two overtimes.

Last week, Bountiful took down Northridge on the road by the count of 2-0, the Redhawks’ second shutout of the season. In this victory, Bountiful scored a goal in each half, as Elias Pacheco and Josh Clegg each found the back of the net. Austin Eddings and Cody Forbes had assists, while goalkeeper David Kessler got credit for the shutout.

After six games, Forbes was the leading scorer with six goals. Pacheco and Sammy Serio each had three scores. Pacheco has been outstanding on the field, as the senior has already racked up nine assists, first in Class 5A and second in the entire state.

Bountiful hosts Clearfield on Thursday.

Viewmont

The Vikings are an even 3-3 overall and sit at 2-1 in Region 5, tied with three other teams for second place.

Viewmont had a rare Monday game on March 24, out dueling Bonneville 3-2 on the road in overtime. Both Bonneville goals came in the second half, but Viewmont didn’t allow an overtime goal and got the game winner from Drew Breese in the extra session. Jacob Ramos scored both of Viewmont’s regulation goals.

Both Ramos and Carson Lindquist pace Viewmont with four goals through six games. Seven different players have assisted on goals.

Next up for the Vikings is a home game with Box Elder on Thursday. This contest followed Tuesday’s matchup with Bountiful, which was after our press time.

Woods Cross

The Wildcats have had a tough time so far even getting in games.

Weather has put off or cancelled some of the team’s matchups. Those games Woods Cross has gotten in haven’t gone its way. The Wildcats were 0-3 overall and 0-2 in Region 5 heading into a Tuesday contest with Bonneville at home. The Wildcats will host Roy on Thursday.

Woods Cross last played on March 13 when they dropped a 4-1 decision at home to Clearfield. Dylan Falanchi scored the team’s lone goal. On March 11, Woods Cross fell to league-leading Bountiful, 2-0.

Davis

In Region 1, league games are set to kick off this week.

On Wednesday, the Darts will host Weber in the Region 1 opener. Davis is looking to improve on its 3-7 league record from last year and return to its 2023 form when it won Region 1 with a 10-2 record.

In non-region games, Davis went 3-2, last playing March 14 in a shootout loss at Pleasant Grove. Davis was trailing 1-0 at the break but got the game into overtime with a goal from Kyle Livermore. After no goals in overtime, Pleasant Grove made four penalty kicks to two from Davis to prevail.

Davis has scored six goals through five games, with Livermore leading the way with three. He also paces the Darts with two assists. The senior midfielder scored two goals last season and was the team’s leader in assists with five.

Davis will play at Farmington this Friday.

Farmington

The Phoenix begin their Region 1 title defense this Wednesday at home against Layton.

Farmington had a fabulous season in 2024, not only winning Region 1 but advancing to the Class 6A state title game before falling to American Fork, 1-0. Farmington was 16-2 overall last season.

But it’s a new year for Farmington, and the team has a new coach too.

Brittain Thomas has taken over the program, inheriting a team that had a lot of momentum entering the season. Farmington was 1-1 in its first two games, defeating Woods Cross 5-9 on March 3 and falling to Layton Christian 1-0 on March 14.

The Phoenix have 10 region games this season as they begin their quest to win another region crown and make a deep playoff run.
