Non-league play and spring break are over for Davis County baseball teams, so the region races are about to heat up.

In Region 1, Davis began league play with a dominant 17-2 win at Syracuse on Tuesday in the first of a three-game series that continues Wednesday and Friday. By defeating the Titans by 15 runs, Davis moved to 7-4 overall. The Darts scored 11 runs in the third inning alone and then added six more in the fourth inning. Though Syracuse scored twice in the bottom of the fourth, the game was called due to the mercy rule.

Wally Grant led the way on the mound for Davis, striking out four batters. Brody McGuire drove in three runs and hit a home run for the Darts, while Owen Talbot, Tyson Baggett and Grant hit doubles. Grant added to his big day with three RBI, matching the output of Jaxon Marble and Talbot, who also had three RBI.

Farmington

The 2-9 Phoenix lost their Region 1 opener with a 16-6 loss at Fremont on Tuesday. The two teams played again on Wednesday and meet up at Fremont on Friday.

Farmington fell to 0-1 in league play with the 10-run loss despite taking a 6-2 lead in the top of the third inning. However, Fremont added eight runs in the bottom of the third to open a lead it would never relinquish. Brody Rolfson hit a home run and had two RBI for Farmington. Bam Christopherson also brought in two runs for the Phoenix.

Viewmont

Region 5 has also began league action, and the Vikings got off to a good start.

Viewmont improved to 6-6 overall on Monday with an 11-0 shutout of Box Elder. The game only went five innings before it was called due to the margin the Vikings held. They scored twice in the second and third innings before adding three in the fourth and four in the fifth inning.

Jack Owen had a big day on the mound. The junior pitcher got the win and struck out seven batters. Bode Peterson had a double and an RBI. James Peterson was productive, driving in three scores for the Vikings. Aiden Groves and Elias Culley each had two RBI.

The Vikings had another game with Box Elder, this time before our press deadline on Wednesday. On Friday, Viewmont travels to Northridge.

Woods Cross

The Wildcats also won their region opener, defeating Clearfield 11-0 at home on Monday. The win improved Woods Cross’ record to 5-6 overall.

Woods Cross only needed 4 ½ innings to prevail, aided by a four-run fourth inning. Coleman Burbidge was the winning pitcher, and he also retired five batters. Thomas Pattison had three RBI, and Camden Olsen brought in two batters.

Woods Cross played at Clearfield on Wednesday and then go to Roy on Friday for the first of two matchups with the Royals.

Bountiful

The non-region slate for the Redhawks was challenging, but they won their region opener. On Monday, Bountiful outlasted Roy 4-3 at home, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Josh Stapley hit a double and had an RBI in the victory. Hudson Malmrose had two RBI. On the mound, pitcher Kyson Burningham was the winner, recording two strikeouts in the process.

The Redhawks looked to move to 2-0 in Region 5 on Wednesday when they played at Roy in game two of the series. Bountiful hosts Box Elder on Friday.
