Man killed in officer involved shooting

FARMINGTON—A man was shot and killed by a Farmington police officer early Monday morning, April 21, when he refused to drop the gun he was holding during a domestic situation. It was reported the man was holding a gun to a woman’s head.

At approximately 1:55 a.m., officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance outside of a residence in the area of Lupine Way and Foxglove Road. When they arrived, they found an adult female and the adult male who was in possession of a handgun.

Officers gave him multiple commands to drop the weapon, but he refused, police said. One of the officers fired his weapon, striking the man. Emergency personnel were immediately called and responded to the scene, where he was pronounced deceased, according to a release.

Police said it was an isolated incident and there was no threat to public safety. Officers on the scene and the female victim were not injured in the incident. 

The Davis County Officer involved Critical Incident Protocol Team is on scene and conducting the investigation. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. 

This is an active and ongoing investigation. The name of the man was not released.
