2nd ranked Bountiful keeps rolling through Region 5; Davis undefeated in Region 1

Bountiful

Third-ranked Bountiful defeated Northridge 19-3 April 15. The Knights got three runs on the board in the top of the first inning and that would be their only scoring as the Redhawks fought back with multiple runs in each of the game’s four innings to dominate the game.

Isabeau Hoff and Ella Miller each brought in three runs with Abby Orem and Ava Howe recording two RBIs in the win. Dylan Carpenter picked up the win in the circle, striking out four Northridge batters. 

Against Cyprus Apr. 16, Bountiful won 6-0. It was a one-run game through four innings before the Redhawks scored five over the next two innings to close out the win.

Pitcher Ella Miller had a huge game with 18 strikeouts while also driving in a run. Howe and Hoff also recorded an RBI.

Bountiful is 9-0 in Region 5 this year and 15-1 so far this year.

Davis

Davis defeated Layton 11-0 April 15, exploding on offense while Serena Roth held the Lancers to one hit on the day while striking out seven. The Darts turned a 2-0 lead after three innings into a rout with nine runs to end the game.

“Our second baseman Adelyn Turpin made some great plays on defense along with Libby Miller having some great catches for us in right field,” said head coach Todd Street. “We are starting to play some good softball.”

Jewel Korth had a grand slam home run and a double, driving in five runs. Roth helped herself at the plate with a home run as well and two RBIs as well. Hadlee Isaacs also helped on the offense with two RBIs and Sophia Slouf and Cambell Christensen each had one.

Against Weber April 17, Davis won 14-1, starting the game with nine runs and scoring five more in the final two innings. 

“It was cold but our bats were hot!” said Street, noting his team’s 14 hits.

Isaacs went 3-for-3, including a home run, and brought in four runs. Christensen had three RBIs with Riley Jaques two, and Turpin, Slouf, Korth and Ella Nielson one each.

Roth pitched a one-hitter, having “another great day in the circle,” according to Street.

In a tournament at Copper Hills April 19, the Darts defeated Hunter 13-2, Copper Hills 9-2 and Logan 10-4. Christensen struck out 14 batters on the weekend with two wins in the circle while also driving in two runs. Roth pitched the team to a win against the Grizzlies with three strikeouts. Offensively, Jaques brought in seven runs with Isaacs and Turpin adding five, Katie Klauman and Sunderland three, Slouf two and Peery, Neilson and Korth one.

Davis improved to 13-6 this season and 4-0 in Region 1.

Farmington

Farmington lost to Syracuse 15-4 April 15. The Phoenix squad was down just after three innings before giving up 10 runs over the next two in the loss.

Ruby Andrus, Jane Frey, Kiley Gazafy and Sophia Strong each drove in a run.

Against Layton April 18, Farmington won 13-3, scoring in every inning – leading from start to finish – and closing out the game with five late runs.

Andrus had three RBIs while Brooklyn Wright added two and Frey, Gazafy, Strong, Lola Ogzewalla and Morgan Rogers had one each.

The Phoenix team is now 2-2 in Region 1 play and 9-5 this year.

Viewmont

Viewmont defeated Bonneville 9-7 Apr. 15. The Vikings found themselves down 4-3 before turning the game around and then holding on for the win.

London Dickerson struck out 11 Lakers batters and got help offensively from Ricky Smith with four RBIs – including two home runs – while Camille Taylor, Marlee Moser and Karli Dickerson each drove in a run.

Against Ridgeline April 19, Viewmont lost 11-4. The Vikings scored first and last in the game but the Vikings were down by nine runs before adding a few late runs in the loss. Smith and Moser each drove in two runs in the game.

Viewmont is now 6-9 this spring and 3-4 in Region 5.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross beat Roy 14-7 Apr. 15.

“It was a good one for us finally!” said head coach Casey Plowman.

Rylee Feller had a day with a three-run home run and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, going 4-for-5 from the plate, and driving in five runs. Audrey Ayala had four hits in four plate appearances while also adding three stolen bases. Tina Tuakiapimahu was 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Whitney Winegar (two RBIs) and Bree Benson (one) also helped offensively. Benson struck out five Royals batters, pitching a complete game in the win.

Against Clearfield April 16, the Wildcats lost 12-0, giving up nine runs in the second inning and couldn’t get anything going offensively.

On April 18, Woods Cross defeated Summit Academy 17-2, going up 12-0 after two innings and coasting to the win.

“Savannah Juggert pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts,” said Plowman. 

Benson, Bahiyyih Hemo and Katelyn Hall each drove in two runs with Ayala, Winegar, Juggert, Kaylee Moen and Ashlynn Nelson had an RBI each in the win.

The Wildcats have a 5-9 overall record and a 3-7 Region 5 mark.
