Keep skills up this summer with camps and clinics

Interested in sports camps options this summer? Here’s a look at what’s being offered at the local high schools.

Davis

Two boys basketball camps taught by the current DHS boys basketball coaching staff and current team members are scheduled for K-12th graders. They will be held May 27 through 30 and June 2 through 5. Each session will focus on the fundamentals of shooting, defense, ball handling and rebounding. Free throw competitions, three-point contests and one-on-one competitions will also be held. The cost of each camp is $85, which includes a water bottle, camp T-shirt and daily refreshments. Incoming 6th through 8th graders attend each day of the camp from 8:30 to 10 a.m., 3rd through 5th from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and grades K through 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, contact Chad Sims at [email protected].

The girls basketball program is hosting a camp for boys and girls in grades K through 6 and for girls entering 7th through 10th grade June 9-12. Those in 4th through 6th grades attend promptly from 8:30-10 a.m. with kindergarten through 3rd graders also needing to be in the DHS small gym promptly at 10-11:30 a.m. The cost of this camp is $45. Seventh through 10th graders will be in the main gym each day from 8:30-11 a.m. This session is $80. Register in the DHS main office (open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.) by filling out a form and securing payment to the girls basketball program to ensure official registration and a T-shirt. Farmington

A boys and girls basketball camp for first through sixth graders will be run by the FHS boys program and be held June 2-5 from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $75 which includes a t-shirt. For more information, contact Kasey Walkenhurst at (801) 402-9050. 

A separate girls basketball camp is scheduled for May 27-28. Grades 2-8 are held from 10:15 a.m. -12 p.m. The cost is $40. For high schoolers, the camp will be held Thursday, May 29 from 8 – 10 a.m. with the cost being $60. Registrations for each camp includes a t-shirt (correct size if registered by May 10). Emphasis will be placed on individual fundamentals of dribbling, passing and shooting along with team play and the ability to read and react to defenses. The proceeds from this camp will be used to purchase T-shirts, pay for awards, and help fund the FHS Girls Basketball Team. For more information email coach Tara Ferrin at [email protected].

A football youth camp, run by head coach Daniel Coats, his staff and current varsity players is scheduled for June 9-11 at the FHS stadium. Those who will be in grades 2-5 participate from 8-10 a.m. and grades 6-8 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. The cost is $75 and will cover training, activities, football and a daily treat.

A girls soccer camp will be held July 15-18 at the FHS football field for incoming seventh through 12th grade players. This camp, coached by the FHS soccer coaching staff, will emphasize dribbling, passing and shooting skills and is a great opportunity to be seen by the coaches. The cost is $90, which includes a T-shirt. Registration can be handled in the school’s front office. A volleyball camp will be held June 9-11 for kindergarteners through 15-year-olds. Those 11 and under come from 8 to 10 a.m. and those from ages 12 to 15 are from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost is $60 with a T-shirt included. The instruction will be by the Farmington High coaches staff and current varsity players. For more information, email Coach Erin at [email protected]

A baseball summer clinic is scheduled for July 28-29 for players ages 7-10. For 11 to 15-year-olds, it will be held July 29-30. The cost is $100 and needs to be paid to the FHS main office. Email Coach Sam Marx for the QR code to register.

Viewmont

A Viking basketball camp for girls is scheduled for June 9-11 from 8 to 10 a.m. for girls entering 

seventh through 12th grades. The cost is $45 with registrations being accepted with cash, check or card in Viewmont High’s main office.

A co-ed volleyball camp – for those entering the third through ninth grades this fall – is scheduled for June 3 through June 5. A beginner or elementary session will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with intermediate or junior high prep from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $55. Email [email protected] for more information. 

Others

A high school summer swim league is being held at the South Davis Recreation Center from June 2 through June 28 for high school swimmers to develop racing skills and techniques and for competitive swimmers to learn the proper techniques for all four strokes.
