BOUNTIFUL—When Kody Lilo was diagnosed with a rare heart disease in 2022, the 30-year-old father of two knew something had to change.
“My diabetes was also out of control,” said Lilo. “I had to start on insulin, my blood pressure and cholesterol were high. I was on nine to 11 different medications.”
Lilo is Polynesian and grew up in Hawaii. “I’ve struggled with my health and obesity over the years,” he said. “I lost 70 pounds on my mission and then gained it all back.”
He started his health journey in 2024 when a friend convinced him to start going to the gym. “I went as a guest to EoS and started dieting and exercising,” said Lilo. “My wife is in health care and she helped me stick to a routine."
Lilo lost 80 to 90 pounds. “My A1C dropped down significantly,” he said. “Yes I lost weight but it also reversed health issues. It lowered my insulin and my blood pressure went down.”
There is a family history of obesity, he said. “I’ve lost family members to obesity and heart problems at a young age.”
In addition to the health issues Lilo said he spent the last six months dealing with foot problems and surgery. “I wonder what I would have been able to accomplish in a shorter time if not because of the injury.”
Lilo has been involved with coaching high school track and field and football. “I would encourage them to see their potential," he said. “Now this is what I’m passionate about. Whether as a personal trainer or something in health and wellness, I want to do it for me and for those around me.”
For all of his hard work, Lilo was named the 2025 Submit Your Fit Winner at EoS for the Bountiful location. The contest is held annually to give members the opportunity to inspire others and share their transformational stories, an EoS release said. Lilo was selected by EoS team members.
“My little girls are my motivators,” said Lilo. “They’re the factor that makes me want to be healthy overall. There’s no turning back.”
