Davis High remained unbeaten as the boys lacrosse team advanced in the state 6A tournament with a convincing 23-7 win over Syracuse on Thursday. The Darts had a first-round bye. They were joined by Farmington, a 10-3 victor over Riverton in second-round action. The Phoenix also enjoyed a first-round bye and are now 14-4 on the year. Both teams continue to play on Saturday in the expedited state tourney.

In 5A boys play in round two, Woods Cross edged Bountiful 7-6 in overtime. The Wildcats had a first-round bye while the Redhawks defeated Roy 17-3 on Tuesday to advance. Viewmont lost 16-7 to Spanish Fork in round one and was eliminated.

It was the third time Davis has beaten Syracuse this year (same region). The Darts have been led this season by seniors Luke Donigan and Rocky Edelman, who helped the strong supporting cast in trouncing the Titans. Davis will take on Fremont on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Kai Beynon scored five goals in the Phoenix win over Riverton. Mitch Milne also scored twice for Farmington, which faces Lone Peak in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

In 5A, the Woods Cross-Bountiful match was forced into overtime when Wildcat Elliot Bendinger tied the score with just 16 seconds left. In overtime, Lucas Hammond scored the game-winner. The Wildcats are now 14-5 on the year and face fourth-seeded Alta on Saturday. Bountiful’s year finished with a 13-6 record. The Redhawks beat Roy behind five goals and three assists from Dawson Allsop.

GIRLS

There were two upsets in the second-round of the girls’ 5A tournament on Thursday, as Box Elder surprised fourth-seeded Woods Cross 14-11. Senior Emmy Richards scored four goals for the Wildcats, with senior Rylee Linton adding three. Woods Cross ended its season with a 15-3 record.

Box Elder is set to meet Cedar Valley in a Saturday quarterfinal, after fifth seed Viewmont lost 12-9 to Cedar Valley, a 12th seed.  Brienna Wallis and Cecelia Walton each scored three times for Viewmont. The Vikings finished the year at 15-4. Bountiful was beaten in the first round by Alta 16-3.

In 6A girls play, both Davis and Farmington moved into the quarterfinals. Sixth-seed Davis thumped Fremont 16-10, as Esther Facer and Sophie Karras both scored five times. The Darts are set to take on Riverton on Saturday. Meanwhile, second-seed Farmington crushed American Fork 24-3. Hailey Larsen scored six times and Alexandra MacAulay five times for the Phoenix, who will take on Bingham on Saturday.
