Woods Cross

Woods Cross High senior Kennedee Pearson shot a 74, tying for first with Bonneville’s Whittni Johnson at the Region 5 tournament at Glen Eagle May 6 and helped the Wildcats take first as a team – its first program title in the school’s history. Her finish gave her region overall medalist honors for the season with Woods Cross also atop Region 5 for the year.

“Our region match at Glen Eagle started off cold and rainy with all players having to endure about 90 minutes of that weather before the sun came out,” said head coach Brandon Pearson. “Kennedee was even through 10 holes, then had a battle with her swing for a three-hole stretch where she was five over par during those holes. She and I had a brief discussion about her finishing strong and not giving up. I moved on to help other players on the team and hoped for the best. At the conclusion of Kennedee’s round, she found me and let me know that she had birdied three of her last five holes to get back to +2 (74) on the day. This was good enough for a tie for first and solidified her position as our region’s medalist for the year!”

Tess Poulsen tied for sixth place with a round of 81 and Vivian Oaks and Makenzie Pearson had 82s, tying for eighth. Makenzie broke her personal best by seven strokes with her round at region. Also competing for Woods Cross were Charli Judd (93), Kately Norman (97), Bella Lakey (99) and Esme Cahoon (106).

“Our team had our best collective performance when we needed it most,” said Coach Pearson, of his team’s five-stroke win over Bonneville. “I’m super proud of our team and what they’ve accomplished this year. They’ve shown tremendous dedication to getting better and working hard each day. We’re looking forward to state and the good challenge that it will be battling against some of the state’s best players.”

Bountiful

Bountiful High’s Cambria Ohlson shot an 81 at Glen Eagle to take sixth, helping the Redhawks to a fourth-place showing as a team. Other scores for Bountiful were Izzy Kuehne 88, Macey Robinson 94, Demaree Wernli 99, Rachael Robertson 105, Sadie Barlow 107, Emily Peterson 112 and McKayla Hession 119.

Ohlson and Kuehne finished the season as All-Region golfers and helped the Redhawks take fourth in Region 5 as a team.

Viewmont placed fifth at Glen Eagle with a team score of 379, led by Berklie Fox’s round of 86. Also competing for the Vikings, who finished the spring in fifth in region, were Brinlee Carr (93), Ella Shupe (98), Colby Anthon (102), Isabelle Inkley (112), Savoy Ashworth (117) and Lillian Parker (125).
