In the march toward state championship honors, every victory is huge.
The high school boys soccer tournament is in full swing, and a pair of Davis County teams are one step closer to reaching the title game. In Class 6A, Region 2 rivals Davis and Farmington squared off on May 13 in second-round action. In a contest held at Davis, the Darts prevailed 1-0 in a thrilling double-overtime match.
Davis moved to 10-5 on the season, scoring in the second overtime in what had been a scoreless game. It was the third Davis victory over Farmington this season and the third time the game had been decided by a single goal. With the win, the Darts move on to the state quarterfinals, where they will host Bingham on Thursday for the right to advance to the state semifinals on May 20 against the winner of Riverton and top-seeded Lone Peak.
For Farmington, the Phoenix end the 2025 campaign with a 5-7 record.
Bountiful
The Redhawks grabbed the No. 3 seed in the Class 5A state tournament after compiling an impressive 16-1 record during the regular season. Bountiful captured the Region 5 record with a perfect 14-0 record.
Bountiful secured a first-round bye and then got everything it could handle in round two against Region 6’s Olympus on May 13.
The Redhawks escaped the second round with a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Titans, scoring goals in each half. Cody Forbes scored in the first half for Bountiful, which went into halftime knotted up at 1-1 with Olympus. However, in the second half, Bountiful junior Pim DeJonge scored the game-winning goal. It was DeJonge’s third goal of the year and his biggest of the season.
This season, Bountiful has become accustomed to winning close games. The team has now had eight single-goal victories in 2025.
Next up for the Redhawks is a quarterfinals matchup with sixth-seeded Skyline, a team that finished third in Region 6. The two teams clash on Thursday at Bountiful. If the Redhawks win, they’ll reach the 5A semifinals on May 19 against either Alta or Maple Mountain.
Viewmont
Viewmont’s 2025 season ended with a 2-0 loss to ninth-seeded Northridge on May 13. Seeded No. 8, Viewmont had the home-field advantage but couldn’t hold off the Knights, which defeated the Vikings for the third time this season.
This second-round playoff matchup didn’t go Viewmont’s way, as the Vikings struggled against Northridge’s defense. The Knights scored a goal in each half, and Viewmont suffered its third shutout of the season.
Viewmont finished the season with an overall mark of 11-7. The Vikings were 10-4 in Region 5, placing second behind Bountiful. Viewmont will have to replace senior standout Drew Breese, who tied for the team lead in goals this season with nine. He also led the way with five assists. However, junior Carson Lindquist will be back after sharing the scoring lead with Breese with nine goals. Senior midfielders Jacob Ramos and Ashton Simkins, who scored seven and four goals, respectively, this season, also graduate.
