KAYSVILLE—Looking for something fun to do this summer while getting resources on family health? Come out to the Davis County Health Department’s (DCHD) free weekly “Pop into the Park” family fun event every Friday at Heritage Park in Kaysville.

“It’s to promote a connection with the DCHD,” said Sabrina Harman, Family Health Division Director/Nursing Director. “The program is for children ages 0-8. We will make home visits to help families and individuals with a care plan and make referrals and give them resources in the community so that they can thrive. ”

It isn’t based on insurance or income guidelines, she said. “We can help people with so many different things like connect them to food banks. We personalize the process and tell them what to expect, then we circle back the next week to check in.”

The program also offers mental health screenings in their areas of concern, said Harman.

If children are falling behind in their growth or motor skills, the DCHD will give the family activities to help their child in that area, she said. “We help families find parenting classes and social events they can attend with their children so they can get out into the community and meet new people.”

The event in the park is to raise awareness of the program, Harman said. “We can do screening on site. It’s a one stop shop. We can help them enroll in WIC and give car seat checks.”

There are tons of resources in the community, she said. “Things that can help and support families that they need to thrive in Davis County.”

Parents and kids can meet the friendly staff at the Pop into the Park event, said Harman. “That way they see who we are and who they’ll be meeting with. We’re here to help and support families so they have access to all the things they need.” 

Besides the health benefits, the event adds some fun with face painting, bubbles, chalk and other activities. Pop into the Park events are Fridays from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. through Aug. 8, excluding July 4, at Heritage Park, 250 North Fairfield Rd., Kaysville.
