Calling all treasure hunters there’s a new puzzle to solve. There’s $20,000 at the end, $10,000 to keep and the other $10,000 to donate to a favorite charity. Where’s the Wallet Cash Quest, created by Bank of Utah, is already underway but it’s not too late. Only one clue has dropped and it’s on their site so jump on in. The hunt is for everyone, not just Bank of Utah account holders.

“A couple of years ago we met with our president and he thought it would be really fun to do some sort of a treasure hunt and we agreed," said Bank of Utah AVP Communications Marketing Manager Megan Kenley. “Whatever we end up doing, no matter the event or the sponsorship or anything, we always try really hard to make sure that we’re trying to get back to who we are and our core values.”

One of the main things that Bank of Utah really cares about as an organization is giving back to the community, she said. “So when we were developing the idea for this campaign we were trying to think of how it could benefit more than just one person within the community and how we could make it a bigger thing. That is how we ended up with the kind of pay it forward aspect of it, where you receive $10,000 and then you also give $10,000 to an organization of your choice.”

Kenley said they have a team of people at the bank that developed the clues. “Then we have some clue testers. We’ll have them sign an NDA form and they’ll take all the clues and try to do their work with them and see if they can solve them.”

Each week a new clue is pushed out on the bank’s website and through social media, she said. “The first clue is live but we actually did something a little bit different this year and pushed the last clue on our page as well. Each of the clues kind of narrow down a little bit so that you start kind of broad then you start to figure it out as you go.”

Kenley said they already pushed out the sixth clue. “We scrambled it though and in order to unscramble it we’re encouraging people to go to their nearest Bank of Utah branch to get a hint that will help them unscramble the final clue.”

So if people are coming in and visiting a branch then they actually have two clues, she said. “Then they’re a little ahead in that manner. So that’s something new that we’re doing this year.”

Kenley said another thing they’re doing this year are some side quests. “We’re hiding some piggy banks throughout Utah that will have bonus clues in them. But on top of the bonus clue, whoever finds the piggy bank will also be given a two night stay at Black Desert Resort as well as a handcrafted wallet from Stock and Barrel.”

The side quests don’t really correlate to the final location as much, she said. “We’re going to have side quests going on in various locations to kind of involve everybody and so it’s really, really fun.”

Technically all of Utah can play anyway, said Kenley. “But as the clues start to narrow down to a specific location, some areas will probably go ‘Oh, well you know I can’t find it now because it’s too far away from where I live’ or anything like that. We wanted to develop side quest clues so that other people can play along regardless of where they are.”

At the end of Where’s the Wallet Cash Quest is the hidden wallet, she said. “That will give them the $10,000 in cash and the $10,000 that will go to the charity.”

Various people are going to help hide the piggy banks, Kenley said. “We’ve got a couple different people at some of our other branches who are already geared up and ready to go to push out those side quests when we ask them to.”

It’s the third year Bank of Utah has done it, she said. “We’ve been enjoying it every single year and we’re excited to kind of see how it all plays out this year.”

There’s a really fantastic community of treasure hunters in Utah, said Kenley. “They’re all just friendly, nice people and it’s been really fun to interact with all of them. So it’s just not only like joining this amazing community but also just being able to provide something to the community as a whole in Utah that is going to be beneficial to more than just one individual.”
