Darts off to brilliant start in girls soccer

Aug 15, 2025 12:50PM ● By Josh McFadden

It’s never unusual to see the Davis girls soccer team performing well on the field. This season appears to be no exception.

The Darts won their first four contests of the 2025 campaign, with three of the victories coming by at least three goals. Through four matches, Davis has outscored its foes by a combined 18-1. It was an impressive way to pick up where the program left off following a 17-4 record last season.

Davis was dominant in a season-opening 8-0 blowout over Skyline on the road on Aug. 5. Two days later, the Darts had another one-sided victory: a 5-0 triumph at home over West Field. Kate Willard and Samantha Maudsley each scored twice in the win over Skyline, while Avery Johnson posted two assists. Willard also had two goals and an assist against West Field.

In their two most recent games, the Darts had some closer tests, particularly Aug. 9 at home against Olympus. In that contest, Davis scored a goal in each half to pull out a 2-1 win. Willard and Ellie Stowers each scored, with Lydia Neville and Vivian Fries picking up assists. On Aug. 12, Davis traveled to fellow Davis County school Woods Cross and earned a 3-0 shutout. The Darts were up just 1-0 at the break and added a pair of second-half goals. All three Davis goals were courtesy of Willard, bringing her season total to eight.

Credit must go to the Davis defense for allowing just a single goal through four games. Goalie Kaitlyn Harris has three shutouts to her credit, but she has gotten plenty of help from her backline teammates.

Davis plays at Bountiful on Aug. 19, followed by a home game with Viewmont on Aug. 21.

Region 6

After spending several years in Region 5 of Class 5A, Bountiful, Woods Cross and Viewmont each moved to Region 6 this season. Once league play begins, these three schools will see some unfamiliar opponents. Joining the Redhawks, Wildcats and Vikings in Region 6 are Brighton, Alta, Olympus and Skyline. Each team in the region will play one another twice this season.

Through Aug. 14, Bountiful, Woods Cross and Viewmont had gotten off to challenging starts. Bountiful had just one game up to this point, a 4-1 loss to Farmington on Aug. 7. Woods Cross was 1-3, with its lone win coming at Ogden on Aug. 6 by the count of 2-1. The Wildcats fell at Riverton on Aug. 4, 2-1, and suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Mountain Crest on Aug. 14, in addition to the 3-0 defeat at the hands of Davis. Meanwhile, Viewmont dropped its first four games, including a heartbreaking loss in a shootout at West Field on Aug. 11.

Viewmont played at Crimson Cliffs on Aug. 15, after our press deadline. The Vikings then play at Davis on Aug. 21. Bountiful had a rare Saturday game at Layton on Aug. 16, after our press deadline. On Aug. 19, Bountiful hosts Davis, two days before a home game with Olympus. Woods Cross looked for win No. 2 on Aug. 16 when it traveled to Skyridge. The Wildcats host Riverton on Aug. 19.
