The upward climb with the Viewmont football team continues. 

After five consecutive losing seasons from 2019 through 2023, the Vikings posted an 8-4 mark last season. This season couldn’t have gotten off to a better start, with Viewmont winning its first three contests. 

Andru Jones’ club is fresh off a convincing 48-7 victory over Highland. This came a week after pasting Jordan by a similar 51-7 score. Against Highland, Viewmont did most of its damage in the first half – which is all it needed in the blowout. 

Viewmont was up 14-0 after the first quarter and added 20 more points in the second quarter to lead 34-0 at halftime. The Vikings scored one TD in the third quarter and fourth quarter to add to the one-sided victory. 

Quarterback Jack Savage put up big numbers. 

The senior tossed five touchdowns, including four in the first half. He connected with Brady Clegg from 6 yards out early in the first quarter, followed by a 55-yard TD pass to Benji Tolman in the second quarter. Savage also had second-quarter touchdown tosses to Cooper Willoughby (6 yards) and Parker Rose (4 yards). Tolman added a 5-yard run in the second quarter to account for the Vikings’ scoring in the first half. 

After halftime, Savage threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Tolman to extend the lead to 41-0. Tolman’s fourth touchdown of the day came early in the fourth quarter, this time by way of the ground when the senior made it to the end zone from 23 yards out. 

In a game filled with offensive fireworks, Tolman rumbled for 218 yards on just 20 carries, while amassing 66 yards on two receptions through the air. Savage completed 14 of 26 passes for 180 yards. Clegg had a team-high four catches.

Gabe Draper and Willoughby each had a sack. Cash Nutall and Ryder Taukiuvea each had an interception. Rayden David and Clegg paced Viewmont with six tackles. 

The Vikings can keep their winning streak going this Friday when they take on Weber in a road clash. 

Woods Cross

Woods Cross joined Viewmont in Idaho’s “Rocky Mountain Rumble” last Friday. Unlike the Vikings, the Wildcats came up just short. 

The Wildcats lost to Rigby, Idaho, 33-27 in a heartbreaking defeat in overtime. Now 1-2, Woods Cross will try to bounce back this Friday at home against Snow Canyon. 

The back-and-forth game against Rigby saw Woods Cross go up 13-7 at halftime. It was 21-20 Rigby after three quarters, but Woods Cross forced overtime with a 7-6 advantage in the fourth quarter. However, a Rigby touchdown in overtime sealed its win. 

Woods Cross found success on the ground, rushing for 255 yards on 45 carries. Viliami Tapa’atoutai had 24 carries for 127 yards, while Ryan Miller had seven carries for 62 yards. Quarterback Jesse Simmons only completed five passes (on 10 attempts), but he racked up 163 yards, an impressive 16.3 yards an attempt. Marcus Stepan had two catches for 69 yards. Tapa’atoutai also had a good day on the defensive side of the ball, making five tackles and a sack. 

Bountiful

The defending Class 5A champions lost a lot of talent and production from the 2024 team. This year’s squad is trying to find its way. 

Last Friday, Bountiful suffered a 35-7 loss at home to Syracuse, dropping to 1-2 on the season. 

In the defeat, Bountiful didn’t get on the board until 1:46 left in the contest when Zeke Murdock scored on a 2-yard run. The Syracuse defense was all over the Redhawks, limiting them to just 27 yards rushing. Hudson Malmrose was 17-25 for 189 yards and an interception. He hit Siaki Fekitoa five times for 42 yards and Max Feller four times for 33 yards. Lakepa Satuala had a pair of grabs for 50 yards. Dawson Allsop made his presence known on defense, making 12 tackles. 

The Redhawks have a home game with Morgan on Friday.
