Child struck and killed in car wash parking lot
A 2-year-old was killed last Friday after being struck by a truck in the parking lot of the Shiny Shell Car Wash in Layton.
At approximately 10 a.m. Sept. 5 Layton Police and Layton Fire Department personnel responded to an auto-pedestrian accident at the car wash located at 1495 East Church Street.
The child was flown by AirMed to Primary Children's Hospital in critical condition. Despite extensive life-saving efforts, the child tragically succumbed to her injuries, police said.
The Layton Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit and Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation, according to a Layton Police Department release.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that the child's mother was parked next to a truck operated by an 18-year-old male,” the release said. “Two children were outside of the vehicles when the driver completed cleaning his vehicle and began to leave. The 2-year-old child, positioned near the front passenger side of the truck, was struck.”
Police said the driver has been fully cooperative with investigators. No additional information was released as of press time.
