The Bountiful girls soccer team has captured four state championships in program history, but the Redhawks haven’t won the top prize since 2006. That can change this Friday. 

The Redhawks defeated Springville 3-2 on Oct. 21 in the Class 5A state semifinals in a contest played at Zions Bank Stadium. With the huge win, Bountiful will face Olympus in the title game this Friday at America First Field in Sandy. 

The semifinals win was a thrilling one. 

Both teams scored two goals in the first half in a high-scoring affair. Izzy Hill and Myka Page scored for Bountiful to keep pace with Springville’s potent attack. But the Redhawks’ defense clamped down and kept Springville off the board after halftime. Meanwhile, Bountiful’s Emmy Sorensen scored in the second half to break the tie and provide the game-winning goal. It was Sorensen’s third goal of the year, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. 

Now, the 13-5 Redhawks will play a team that is hardly a new opponent. 

Bountiful squares off with Region 6 foe Olympus this Friday. Olympus is 15-4 overall and won Region 6 with an 11-1 mark, one game ahead of Bountiful. The two teams played twice during the regular season, and Olympus got the better of Bountiful both times, giving the Redhawks their only two defeats in league play. Olympus prevailed 4-2 on Aug. 21 and 5-2 on Sept. 15.

Coming into the finals, Bountiful boasts one of the state’s top players in senior forward Belle Sorensen. She has 24 goals and 10 assists this season, leading the team in both categories. Belle Sorensen has 80 career goals and 32 career assists. This season, she leads 5A in scoring. 

The Redhawks have struggled with Olympus lately. In addition to the two losses this season, Bountiful lost to the Titans 3-0 in last season’s 5A semifinals. Bountiful last reached the finals just two seasons ago when they came up short against Maple Mountain in a shootout. 

Davis 

In Class 6A, Davis’ surprising run came to an end in the semifinals. 

Playing as the No. 11 seed, Davis won a pair of playoff games, both in upset fashion. But the Darts couldn’t overcome Region 1 rival Syracuse, 6A’s No. 2 seed. Syracuse beat Davis for the third time this season, winning in the semifinals 2-1. All three losses to the Titans were by a single goal. 

Davis trailed 1-0 at halftime and was then down 2-0 late in the game before Kate Willard found the back of the net. It was Willard’s 13th goal of the season and the 29th of her career. The Darts finished the season with an 11-8 record. 

Don’t be surprised if Davis is a factor in the state girls soccer race again next season. 

The team’s top scorers will be back in 2026, as both Willard and Samantha Maudsley (who had nine goals this season) are juniors and will return. Plus, third-leading scorer Reial Phongsavath, a sophomore who had seven goals this season, will be back for the Darts. Davis will have to replace goalkeeper Kaitlyn Harris, who had six shutouts.
