WOODS CROSS—The Woods Cross Police Department said goodbye to a faithful member of the law enforcement family Oct. 23 with the passing of K9 Ranger. Ranger had been with the department for 10 years. The Bloodhound was trained to find missing people and wanted criminals. He retired from service in 2024. 

“Ranger’s remarkable nose, loyal heart and unwavering dedication made him an exceptional partner and an irreplaceable member of our law enforcement family,” said BreeAnna Sanders, Woods Cross Police Department PIO in a media release.

Over his career, Ranger helped locate 83 wanted persons and found six missing children. 

“His commitment to training and readiness took him more than 500 miles across various environments and he proudly assisted over 30 law enforcement agencies across the region,” the release said. 

After retirement, Ranger became part of his handler’s family, watching over the neighborhood and greeting the kids when they got home from school. 

“Ranger’s dedication and service embodied everything we value in a K9 partner,” said Sanders in the release. “He not only protected our community but brought joy and pride to everyone in our department. Rest easy Ranger your watch has ended. We’ll carry your memory in our hearts and your legacy will forever guide our path.”
