FARMINGTON—The new North Station Lane bridge over I-15 opened Monday, Nov. 24, replacing the old Shephard Lane bridge that was demolished in May. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) opened one lane in each direction while crews finish work on signals, striping and signage.

The new bridge is one of the first major pieces of a new interchange being built in the area to improve access, safety and east-west travel through Farmington, according to a UDOT release. 

Crews removed the old Shepard Lane bridge in May to build a wider structure and begin work on the new interchange. Once the interchange is complete it will include a 10-foot wide shared-use trail, new sidewalks and a pedestrian bridge, the release said.

“People in Farmington have been waiting a long time to get this connection back,” UDOT Region One Communications Manager Mitch Shaw said. “Reopening this bridge gives families, businesses and neighborhoods a more reliable way to get around.”

The intersection will operate as a four-way stop until signals are activated. Also, pedestrians can now cross the bridge with a temporary route along the north shoulder until a permanent sidewalk is complete, the release said.

To hit future construction milestones, there will be several overnight closures of I-15 for November, December and January. On Tuesday, Nov. 25, crews will reduce northbound I-15 to one lane from Park Lane to 200 North for bridge work. Then, during the same time frame, northbound I-15 will be closed again on the evening of Nov. 25 from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.

The project is on track to be completed by winter 2026.
