DAVIS COUNTY—The Davis County Health Department has identified one case of the measles in the county and is advising unvaccinated residents to get vaccinated. 

 “Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease. The MMR vaccine has been used for decades and is very safe and very effective,” said Sarah Willardson, DCHD’s Communicable Disease and Epidemiology Division Director. “Being fully vaccinated against measles does more than just protect the person who receives the vaccination; it also protects their family and friends, including children who may be too young to be vaccinated, and it helps limit the spread of disease in the community.”

After receiving a report of the illness over the weekend, the DCHD immediately began a disease investigation. The resident visited three different public locations while they were infectious; people who were at the following locations during the indicated times may have been exposed:

● Kid Zone, 340 West Antelope Drive Suites A101, Clearfield, UT, on Wednesday,

Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

● Treehouse Children’s Museum, 347 22nd Street, Ogden, UT, on Wednesday,

Nov. 26 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

● Walmart Supercenter, 745 West Hill Field Road, Layton, UT, on Wednesday,

Nov. 26 from 6:20 p.m. to 7:20 p.m.

According to DCHD, measles can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area, people who were at these locations during the listed time may have been exposed even without direct contact with the resident.

Anyone who has been exposed to measles should watch for symptoms for 21 days after exposure, a DCHD release said.

Early symptoms can include fever, cough, runny nose and red or watery eyes, followed by a rash that typically starts several days later and begins on the head or face. Anyone who thinks they have measles or has been exposed to someone with measles should stay home and call their health care provider before seeking care so the provider can plan to see you without exposing others, the release said.
