Davis boys basketball back on court following state title run

Dec 05, 2025 01:54PM ● By Josh McFadden

A little more than nine months ago, the Davis boys basketball team was hoisting the state championship trophy after capturing the Class 6A crown. The 2025–26 Darts are hoping to pick up where they left off.

Davis lost leading scorer Coleman Atwater from last year’s squad, but plenty of firepower has returned. Key players from last season title-winning team, including JT Turley, Bode Sparrow and football star Tradon Bessinger are in the lineup again this time around.

The Darts are sure to have every opponent’s attention this season.

The young season is only two games old for Davis, and the Darts split those contests. The season-opening game on Nov. 25 was a humbling 70-51 loss to Westlake, but the Darts bounced back. On Dec. 2, Davis crushed Copper Hills at home by the score of 92-57 in a high-scoring affair. Davis started and finished strong and connected on 34 field goals. Four players scored in double figures, with Bessinger pacing the Darts with 19 points. Cameron Brower added 18 points, while Turley and Dilan Peterson each scored 17 points. Gus Van Brocklin and Sparrow neared double figures in scoring, each totaling nine points. Davis was on fire from outside, hitting 16 three-pointers.

The Darts participated in the Corner Canyon Tournament in Draper on Dec. 4 with a contest against Mountain Vista, Colorado, in a game after our press time. Davis faces Mountain View, Idaho, in the same tournament on Dec. 6. Davis will later play in two other December tournaments as part of a challenging non-region slate before beginning Region 1 action.

Farmington

The Phoenix struggled last season to a 6-17 overall mark and a 2-8 record in Region 1. But the 2025–26 campaign has gotten off to a good start.

Farmington already has half as many wins this season as it did all last season, as the Phoenix were victorious in their first three contests. Wins one and two were lopsided, but in its most recent game, Farmington went down to the wire with the visitors from Pleasant Grove. The Phoenix prevailed 61-60 after outscoring the Vikings 15-12 over the final six minutes. Farmington also overcame a slow start in which it was down 19-11 after one quarter.

In the entire game against Pleasant Grove, Farmington made just one free throw. Luckily for the Phoenix, they hit 10 three-pointers to six by Pleasant Grove. Of the six players who scored for Farmington, four had at least 10 points. The leading scorer for Farmington was Sawyer Bingham, who tallied 15 points, aided by four three-pointers. Malakai Tobler also hit four three-pointers, as he totaled 14 points. Jack Layton had 12 points, and Isaac Anderson 10 for Farmington.

Before this close victory, Farmington blew out Skyline 73-48 on Nov. 20 and took down Viewmont 67-52 on Nov. 25. Next up for the Phoenix is a game at West Field on Dec. 5. Following that non-region affair, the Phoenix will participate in the Plewe Agency Falcon Classic at Sky Ridge High School, beginning Dec. 11 against Dixie.
