BOUNTIFUL—The Viewmont High School wrestling team clinched the Region 5 championship Jan. 21 with a commanding 50–18 victory over Bountiful High School, continuing a season defined by depth, leadership and resilience.

The Vikings, who have been dominant throughout the region schedule, sealed the title behind strong performances across multiple weight classes and a focused team effort that left little doubt about their place atop Region 6. The win positions Viewmont as one of the top contenders heading into the postseason.

Leading the program is senior captain Mack Youngberg, a returning state placer who finished fourth at last year’s state tournament despite competing with a broken hand. Youngberg has become the emotional and competitive anchor of the team, setting the tone in both the practice room and on match day.

His message to teammates is simple and constant: “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.” The quote, drawn from William Ernest Henley’s poem Invictus, has become a rallying cry for the Vikings as they prepare for the most important stretch of the season.

Viewmont will next compete in the Division finals at Box Elder High School on Jan. 30–31. The Utah State Wrestling Championships are scheduled for Feb. 12–13 at Utah Valley University in Orem, where the Vikings will look to convert their regional success into a state title run.
