FARMINGTON—An inmate in his 20’s is in the hospital receiving treatment after he attempted suicide at the Davis County Correctial Facility. 

On Jan. 28, deputies found the inmate unconscious during their routine cell checks. Deputies and medical staff immediately implemented life-saving measures until paramedics arrived, a Davis County Sheriff’s Office release said. The man was transported to a nearby hospital by Farmington Fire.

 “Situations like this underscore the complex challenges present in correctional environments,” said Chief Deputy Andrew Oblad. “These incidents are a reminder that mental health crises touch many people, and we remain focused on ensuring our staff and those in our care and custody have access to mental health resources.”

Internal and external investigations will be conducted per policy. At this time, foul play is not suspected, the release said.

Authorities recognize that other individuals in their care and custody experiencing suicidal thoughts may be triggered by this recent event. Inmates are encouraged to use the confidential support available at the facility.
