The Davis County Citizens Police Academy (CPA) has announced its latest schedule as it prepares to launch a new class beginning Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026. The program is designed to bring residents face-to-face with local law enforcement through experiential, behind-the-scenes training and engagement.

The Citizens Police Academy isn’t your typical lecture course. It’s a 13-week series of three-hour weekly classes that dive into the inner workings of multiple Davis County law enforcement agencies, including city police departments, the Davis County Sheriff’s Office, and the County Attorney’s Office.

Participants who are 18 years or older will be introduced to a wide range of public safety topics, from the structure of law enforcement to specialized units such as K-9, SWAT, investigations, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, and homicide. The curriculum also features defensive tactics, simulated tactical scenarios, firearms safety and instruction, and a ride-along with an on-duty patrol officer to experience real police work firsthand.

Organizers emphasize that the CPA is more than just education – it’s a community-building tool. By fostering understanding and mutual respect between citizens and those who serve, the academy aims to strengthen trust and cooperation countywide. Class sizes are capped at 35 people per session, and all applicants must successfully complete a background check before enrollment.

Upon completing the academy and its final graduation ceremony, participants receive a certificate and become eligible to join the Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) program, offering further opportunities for involvement in public safety initiatives.

For more details or to register, interested residents can contact the CPA coordinator Tricia Gallagher at 801-677-6080 or visit the official Davis County Citizens Police Academy website at daviscountycpa.org.
