Boys soccer: Region 1 play begins with Davis win; Bountiful near the top in Region 5

The unusually warm month of March has made life easier for local high school boys soccer teams. And Davis has taken advantage of the time to play.
While many spring seasons include postponements and cancellations due to snow, the 2026 campaign has been a smooth one schedule-wise. With one league game in the books for Region 1 teams, including Davis and Farmington, the season now starts to heat up.
Davis went 5-2 in non-region play, with both defeats coming by a single goal – 1-0 at home to Bountiful in the March 2 season opener and 2-1 at Alta on March 10. Otherwise, the Darts have an unblemished and opened up region action with a 2-1 victory at home over Syracuse on March 25, pushing their record to 6-2 overall.
In the region-opening triumph, all three goals came after halftime, with Davis getting scores from Henry Tanner and Kasen Smith. Cooper Harwood and Jared Calle got the assists. It was Smith’s sixth goal of the season, giving him a tie with Harwood for the team lead. It was Calle’s second goal; he’s also second on the team with three assists, one behind Harwood’s four.
Davis plays at Layton on Friday before taking a week off for Spring Break. The Darts resume play on April 8 at home against Farmington.
Farmington
The Phoenix await their region-opening game this Friday at home against Weber. Farmington was dominant in the non-region portion of the schedule.
Farmington’s won five of its six non-league games, outscoring foes by a cumulative score of 21-4. The team’s only loss was a 3-1 setback at Skyridge on March 7. In the five other games, the Phoenix surrendered just one goal – and that came at Box Elder on March 6 in a 5-1 victory.
Through six games, Jack Burrup leads Farmington with seven goals and three assists. Owen Packard has scored four goals so far, and four other players have totaled two goals apiece.
Farmington’s latest game was a 3-0 shutout on March 16 over Viewmont, a former Region 1 opponent. All three Farmington goals came in the second half, courtesy of Kade Mackintosh (who scored twice) and Burrup. Jax Arnold had an assist, and goalkeeper Jaxon Beynon had the shutout. Following its upcoming game this Friday, Farmington will be back in action on April 8 at Davis.
Bountiful
Region 6 has seven teams to Region 1’s five, so league play is already four games old for Bountiful. The Redhawks are 3-1 in these contests, just half a game behind 3-0 Alta and 4-1 Skyline. Overall, Bountiful is 5-2.
On March 25, Bountiful edged Woods Cross 1-0 on the strength of Cameron Martin’s second-half goal off an Austin Childers’ assist. David Kessler got the shutout in the net. The victory followed another one-goal one, a 3-2 conquest in overtime of Brighton on March 19. Childers scored the game-winner in overtime, and Landon Thompson and Martin each scored and assisted in the win.
The Redhawks’ lone region loss through four games was a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Olympus on March 17.
Two big games loom.
Bountiful hosted Skyline on Thursday, after our press deadline. On March 31, the Redhawks play at Alta.
Through seven games overall, Martin is the team’s top scorer with six goals. He’s also second in assists with four. Ezra Christiansen has scored four times, while Childers paces the Redhawks with five assists. Kessler has two shutout as the team’s starting goalkeeper.
Woods Cross
The Wildcats are still awaiting win No. 1 in league play. Woods Cross is 0-4 in Region 6 and 2-5 overall.
Woods Cross has struggled offensively, scoring just six times this season so far. Region play hasn’t been easy for the Wildcats, though they have made some strides in their last two games. The Wildcats fell at home to Brighton on March 12 by the count of 5-1. This preceded a 6-1 defeat at home to Alta on March 17. The Wildcats had back-to-back 1-0 losses to Skyline (March 19) and Bountiful (March 24).
On Friday, the Wildcats will be aiming to get in the win column in region action when they host Roy. Woods Cross’ last win came at West by the score of 3-2 on March 10. The Wildcats play at Viewmont after Spring Break on April 7.
Lio Pineda has two goals so far this season to lead Woods Cross. Four other players have each scored a goal.
Viewmont
The 2026 season has been even more challenging for Viewmont.
The Vikings are 0-9 overall and 0-4 in Region 6 entering the team’s game at Brighton on Thursday (after our press deadline). For longtime head coach Spencer Keddington, who is 89-63 at the school, the difficult start is unusual. The Vikings were 11-7 last season and tied for second in Region 5 with a 10-4 mark.
Viewmont lost to Olympus 4-1 on March 24 in its last game, with its goal coming from Jayson Dunroe off an assist from Gavin Buck in the second half. The Vikings will welcome the week off for Spring Break before meeting up with Woods Cross at home on April 7 in what is a winnable game for both squads – which each could desperately use a victory.
Through nine games, Viewmont has tallied seven goals, with Carson Lindquist leading the way with three. Four Vikings each have a goal, while five players each have registered an assist.
