LAYTON—Three community-based organizations received CommonSpirit Health Improvement grants to aid them in improving the health of residents of Northern Utah. The grants, totaling $103,000, were presented March 30 by Kyle Brostrom, president of Holy Cross Hospital – Davis.

The organizations receiving the CommonSpirit Health Community Health Improvement grants this year are: Blue Star Families Utah Chapter, Davis Links, and Family Promise of Ogden. These Community Health Improvement Grants are one way CommonSpirit Health extends its mission beyond the walls of their hospitals.

The funds will further key community health initiatives. These three organizations were among 10 Utah organizations to receive CommonSpirit grants this year, totaling more than $300,000.

“Blue Star Families supports families of military members who are deployed, helping them find connections in the community. Davis Links is an online resource directory to connect residents of Davis County to hundreds of resources in the community. And Family Promise of Ogden supports families who are unhoused, providing shelter and other resources,” a CommonSpirit release said.

“One of the things I love about our community is that we come together and create solutions and help people in need,” said  Raquel Da Silva, executive director of Family Promise of Ogden.

“This grant program is a way where we can take our resources as a hospital and reinvest them into the community with organizations that know the community, are out in the community, and are doing some of the best and most important service in the community,” said Peter Galagher, mission director for CommonSpirit’s Utah market.

CommonSpirit is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit Catholic health care organizations.
