BOUNTIFUL—The winners of the Davis School District Art Show were announced at a special awards event and exhibit of student art at the Bountiful Davis Arts Center (BDAC) April 10. BDAC partnered with Davis School District in an effort to connect education with the broader art community.
“The DSD show isn't just an exhibition; it is a milestone for student artists,” said Executive Director, Sarina Ehrgott. “Of over 550 submissions, only 145 were selected. That process alone reflects what artists experience in the real world: selection, refinement, and resilience. At BDAC, our role is to create a bridge from student work to the professional art world. We provide a professional gallery setting, a juried process, and public exposure to a broad audience.”

For many of these students, this is their first time seeing their work treated as serious art, she said. “Emerging artists don't just need talent. They need opportunities, feedback, and visibility. With the DSD show, we try to provide validation in their practice, the context of their peers in similar age groups and mediums, and aspirations for understanding what they can achieve.”
BDAC, in partnership with DSD, awarded a total of $2,410 to students for their artistic merit. Winners were selected in several categories: Sculpture; Print making; Photography; Painting; Mixed media; Jewelry; Glass art; Drawing; Digital art and Ceramics. Lexi Reese won “Best in Show for “Girl Who is Seen.”
Last year’s winner, Zerthun Mekuria was selected as Junior Artist-in-Residence in 2025 and she has a solo show, “Painting What I Cannot Pronounce,” as part of being the Best in Show last year. Mekuria spent last summer as the Junior Artist-in-Residence.
“What we see in this exhibition is not just student work,” said Ehrgott. “It is the beginning of artistic careers, creative confidence, and a lifelong engagement with the arts. BDAC is proud to be a part of that journey.”
The BDAC is located at 90 N. Main Street. The exhibit will be on display through May 8.
