In high school sports, May is the month of champions. When it comes to the 2026 boys soccer race, expect to see Davis among the teams to beat.
The Darts concluded their regular season with an impressive 14-2 record and a Region 1 title. No region foe could find a way to topple Davis, as the Darts went a perfect 8-0 in league play.
Davis’ path to a region crown wasn’t easy. The Darts had five wins by a single goal, while a sixth came in a shootout. That victory was in the final regular-season game, April 29 at home against Weber. Davis prevailed after a 3-3 contest through regulation and two overtimes by outlasting the Warriors 5-3 in penalty kicks. Kasen Smith, Tyler Roe and Titan Jensen scored for Davis, while Cohen Bowden and Smith had assists.
At our press time, Davis was ranked second in Class 6A in the RPI standings, which will give the Darts a first-round playoff bye and a second-round home game. Davis is undefeated this season against 6A competition, with its only two losses coming against 5A foes Bountiful (1-0 in the March 2 season opener) and Alta (2-1 on March 10).
Davis has relied heavily on the skills and leadership of Smith and Cooper Harwood. Smith, a senior midfielder is second on the team in both goals and assists with 11 and six, respectively. Harwood, a junior leads Davis in both categories with 12 goals and nine assist. Goalkeeper Jaxson Yanyecic has recorded three shutouts.
Farmington
Coming in second place in Region 1 behind Davis was the Darts’ rival Farmington. The Phoenix were 5-2 in league play heading into their region finale at home against Layton on May 1, after our press deadline. Farmington has a non-region contest at Layton Christian on May 5.
Both of Farmington’s league setbacks were to Davis, with the Phoenix falling on the road by the count of 3-2 on April 8 and 3-1 on April 24 at home. In its five league wins, Farmington had some impressive outcomes, including a 9-1 thrashing of Syracuse on the road on April 10 and a 4-0 shutout of Weber on March 27 in the region opener.
On April 19, Farmington completed a season sweep of Syracuse, winning 2-1 at home. Though the contest was much different than the previous meeting, the Phoenix held on thanks to goals from Dax Patrick and Jack Burrup, who each assisted on the other’s goal.
Currently, Farmington is ranked right after Davis in the RPI standings at third.
The Phoenix have a prolific scorer in Burrup, a senior forward who has netted 15 goals on the year to go along with six assists. Patrick, a junior has 12 goals and three assists, while three other players have scored four goals each.
Bountiful
Region 6 was a competitive league in 2026, and Bountiful was right in the mix for a title.
The Redhawks went 9-3 in league play, finishing second behind Alta. Bountiful has the No. 5 spot in the RPI rankings, which could set up the team nicely in the second round of the state tournament. Of the Redhawks’ three region defeats, two were to Alta, while the other came at the hands of Olympus. Bountiful picked up a 4-1 victory at Skyline on April 28, scoring two goals in each half. Cameron Martin had two goals, and Pim DeJonge had two assists. Sammy Serio and Jack Byaombe each had a goal.
Bountiful fell to Alta 2-0 in the final region game, April 30 at home. The Redhawks host Syracuse in a non-region matchup to finish the regular season.
The Redhawks enter the final regular-season game with an 11-5 mark. Last season, they went undefeated in Region 5 and were 18-2 overall, falling in the state semifinals to future region foe Alta.
This season, the Redhawks have gotten great production out of Martin, a senior forward who has amassed 14 goals and dished out five assists. Austin Childers paces the team in assists with six, while Ezra Christiansen has six goals, second on the squad. Davis Kessler and Jovany Lobato have each manned the net, picking up two shutouts apiece.
Viewmont
The 3-13 Vikings are 3-8 in Region 6 with one game to play, a May 5 road game at Skyline. Viewmont lost to the Eagles 6-2 on March 21.
Though it has been a challenging season for the Vikings, they were victorious in their last two outings, including a 3-1 win at home over Brighton on April 28. This avenged a 2-1 loss at Brighton on March 26. On April 30, Viewmont took down Woods Cross in a shootout, making five penalty kicks to four for the Wildcats following a scoreless regulation and two overtimes.
The Vikings are led in goals by Carson Lindquist, who has five scores on the year as well as a pair of assists. Jayson Dunroe has three goals and two assists.
Woods Cross
A long year is nearly in the books for the Wildcats.
Woods Cross has struggled this season with a 3-12 overall record. In Region 6, Woods Cross has one more shot at a victory. On May 5, the Wildcats take their 0-11 league mark to Olympus to take on the Titans, a team they lost to by the score of 2-0 on April 9.
The Wildcats managed only five goals in league play against 32 allowed.
