In the Class 6A boys soccer ranks, the Davis Darts captured the Region 1 title and was rewarded with a first-round bye and a second-round home game. The Darts have a manageable path to make a deep postseason run.
With a capable offense and a stout defense, league rival Farmington could be a factor in the Class 6A race too.
The state tournament could be wide open for both 6A and 5A teams. The tournament kicked off May 8 with first-round games. The finals are slated for May 22 for both 6A and 5A.
Davis
The Darts rode solid offense and defense, along with clutch play, to a perfect 8-0 record in Region 1, capturing the title by two games over Farmington. Davis enters the state tournament with a 14-2 record and owns the No. 2 seed.
A familiar foe awaits Davis in round 2.
On Tuesday, Davis entertains Weber, a team it defeated twice during regular-season play. The 15th-seeded Warriors struggled to a 1-7 record in league games but gave the Darts a pair of difficult games. First, on April 10 at Weber, Davis prevailed 3-2. Then, on April 29, in the final regular-season game, Davis outlasted the Warriors in a shootout after a 3-3 game following regulation and two overtime periods. The Darts made five penalty kicks to Davis’ 3 to pull off the win.
Now the two teams meet again, only this time with much higher stakes.
If Davis wins, it will face the winner of seventh-seeded Mountain Ridge and 10th-seeded Layton at home in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals, May 19 at Zions Bank Stadium.
Farmington
The Phoenix grabbed the No. 3 seed in the 6A tournament after placing second in Region 2 with a 6-2 mark. Farmington’s only two league defeats were courtesy of Davis.
The Phoenix were the highest-scoring team in Region 1, accumulating 26 goals in eight region contests. Farmington also allowed a region-low 10 goals in league action.
Farmington opens up the state tournament with a Tuesday home game with No. 14 American Fork a team that sports a 6-8 record and was 3-5 in Region 3. Farmington, meanwhile, is 12-3 overall, a big improvement over last year’s 5-8 record. The Phoenix fell to Davis last season in the state tournament’s second round after securing a first-round bye.
Farmington needs to get past American Fork to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2024. That year, incidentally, the Phoenix reached the 6A championship, losing to American Fork 1-0. If Farmington wins Tuesday’s matchup, it will host the winner of No. 6 Westlake and No. 11 Copper Hills on Thursday.
Bountiful
The 5A race looks to be intriguing, and there’s no reason to think that the Redhawks can’t be a team to watch.
Bountiful finished in second place in a competitive Region 6, going 9-3 in league play and 12-5 overall. The Redhawks were two games behind Alta for the title. Bountiful earned the fifth seed in the postseason and plays at home against former region foe Box Elder on Tuesday.
The Redhawks ride into the state tournament winners of six of their last seven games, including a 3-2 victory over 6A foe Syracuse in the final regular season game, May 5. In that win, Bountiful got two goals from Ezra Christiansen and one from Cameron Martin. Landon Thompson, Jameson Stayner and Pim DeJonge had assists.
Last season, the Redhawks advanced to the 5A semifinals, falling to future region rival Alta 4-0. The march to return to the semifinals for a state crown would include a quarterfinals matchup on Friday with either fourth-seeded Granger or 20th-seeded West Field if Bountiful prevails on Tuesday against Box Elder.
Viewmont
With the 19th seed in the 5A tournament, the Vikings had a long and difficult road ahead of them in the postseason. It was a short stop in what was a challenging season for Viewmont.
The Vikings lost in the first round on the road at Salem Hills on May 8 by the count of 2-1. With the loss, the 2026 season ended for Viewmont, as the team finished with a 3-15 overall record.
Viewmont’s playoff defeat was especially painful because the Vikings were so close to moving on. The contest was tied at 1-1 following regulation; however, in overtime, Salem Hills scored the game winner to put an end to Viewmont’s season. In the first half, Brody Harrison assisted on a Carston Lindquist goal for Viewmont. Unfortunately for the Vikings, this was all the scoring they could muster.
This season, Viewmont had some tough luck, falling by a single goal on six occasions. The Vikings also had a pair of losses by two goals.
Lindquist led the team in scoring with seven goals, while Mason Grange had a team-high three assists, along with a pair of goals.
Woods Cross
The Wildcats went 3-13 on the year and 0-12 in Region 6. Woods Cross missed the post season.
Woods Cross’ best chance for a league victory this season came on April 30 at home against Viewmont. The Wildcats lost in a shootout following a scoreless regulation and two overtime periods. In the shootout, Viewmont prevailed with five successful kicks to Woods Cross’ four.
Two other close calls came in back-to-back games on March 19 and March 24 when the Wildcats lost a pair of 1-0 shutouts to Skyline and Bountiful, respectively.
