State’s ‘Missing Money Treasure Hunt’ helps Utahns recover unclaimed property
SALT LAKE CITY—Utah has received record amounts of unclaimed property so Utah Treasurer Marlo Oaks is encouraging Utahns to join a statewide treasure hunt for missing money June 3 in the Utah Unclaimed Property Webathon from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The online event will take place across the Unclaimed Property Division’s social media channels at https://treasurer.utah.gov/UPwebathon/.
Throughout the day the office will share success stories, interviews with special guests, unclaimed property facts and other updates. Participants who engage with designated webathon content throughout the day may also be eligible for an Amazon gift card drawing, a release said.
More than 18,600 Utahns visited mycash.utah.gov during a previous webathon, helping generate nearly 9,700 claims totaling more than $1.9 million.
During fiscal year 2025, businesses turned over a record $178.3 million in unclaimed property to the state, while the Treasurer’s Office returned a record $43.4 million to rightful owners. Utah is on pace to receive another record-breaking amount of unclaimed property this fiscal year, according to the release.
“With record amounts of unclaimed property reported to the state, more Utahns have money waiting to be claimed than ever before,” Treasurer Oaks said. “The webathon is a reminder to search for your lost money, even if you've searched before, and to encourage friends and family members to do the same. Our goal is simple: help as many Utahns as possible find and claim what belongs to them.”
