Juveniles identified in West Point gunfire incident

WEST POINT—The Davis County Sheriff’s Office has identified five juveniles in relation to an incident of shots fired in a West Point neighborhood on June 1.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Monday a Davis County deputy conducting a routine area patrol responded to the sound of gunfire in the area of 2000 West and 200 North, a DCSO release said.

Deputies located a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident leaving the area and made a traffic stop. Assisted by other local law enforcement agencies, deputies immediately began to secure the area. A shelter-in-place was issued as a precaution in the immediate area. That was lifted at approximately 5:30 a.m. after it was determined that there was no longer a threat to the community, according to the release.

Following an ongoing investigation, the five juveniles were identified on June 2. Two juveniles were booked into the juvenile detention facility for aggravated offenses. Three others have been released to their parents with charges pending referral to the juvenile court, the release said.

At this time, all known parties involved have been identified and are accounted for. This is believed to be an isolated incident and is not believed to be connected to the homicide that occurred in the same area on May 30. The investigation remains ongoing.
