The Utah State Forester approved an order July 20 “enabling municipalities to request expanded restrictions on fireworks within municipal borders” for the Pioneer Day Holiday July 22 through July 25, 2026.  

A municipality’s ability to expand restrictions is a result of several factors, a release said. First the governor issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency due to significant drought conditions and the imminent threat posed by firework discharges starting forest and rangeland fires.

Since that time there has been some improvement in drought conditions throughout the state. Because of this, through the Expanded Restrictions Order, “municipalities could request to implement a full or targeted firework discharge ban if a municipality determined a ban was

warranted and they timely notified the State Forester and provided requested mapping and other information,” the Forestry statement said. 

In accordance with the order, the following Davis County municipalities complied with the protocols and are entitled to full or targeted firework discharge ban:

Layton – TARGETED BAN

Fine fuels, including grasses and light vegetation, remain critically dry and are readily

susceptible to ignition from fireworks. Therefore, Layton has developed a firework restrictions

map.

Kaysville – TARGETED BAN

Many neighborhoods in Kaysville border foothills, open fields, or areas with dense, dry

vegetation. Fine fuels, including grasses and light vegetation, remain critically dry and are

readily susceptible to ignition from fireworks. Therefore, Kaysville has developed a firework

restrictions map.

South Weber City – TARGETED BAN

South Weber City sits within a river valley, surrounded by forested mountain slopes, creating a

unique environment where the outer parts of the community present a higher fire hazard risk

than the central parts. South Weber City’s Mayor & Fire Chief have carefully considered the

current wildfire conditions within the state, and South Weber specifically – dry brush, grass, and

tree-covered areas.

West Bountiful City – FULL BAN

In our area, wildland fire conditions have not improved, or have worsened, since the

implementation of the statewide firework ban earlier in the month. Due to extremely dry conditions and an elevated fire risk this season, the use of fireworks is banned in West Bountiful City.

Centerville – FULL BAN

Centerville City requests authorization to prohibit the discharge of personal fireworks citywide

from July 22 through July 25 based on current local conditions, available firefighting

resources, ignition potential, and the risk to homes and other property throughout the

Community.

Clinton – TARGETED BAN

Fine fuels, including grasses and vegetation, remain critically dry and are readily susceptible to

ignition from fireworks. Therefore, Clinton has developed a firework restrictions map to

designate areas of elevated fire hazard.

Woods Cross – FULL BAN

Woods Cross City finds that current conditions within the City present an imminent risk of

wildfire ignition due to critically dry fuels, sustained hot and dry weather, and the proximity of

combustible vegetation in drainage corridors, undeveloped properties, and areas containing

combustible vegetation create conditions where the discharge of fireworks presents a significant

risk of wildfire ignition that threatens public safety, homes, businesses, infrastructure, and

natural resources.

North Salt Lake – FULL BAN

Weather conditions have remained hot and dry and we believe this fact alone is more than

enough justification for enacting another total ban citywide. The City also has many open areas

that contain grasses and extremely dry vegetation. Therefore, a full ban has been implemented.

Bountiful – FULL BAN

As we consider the upcoming Pioneer Day holiday and firework discharge period (July 22-July

25, 2026), we are concerned about the extremely hazardous fire conditions that exist in

Bountiful. Therefore, a full ban has been implemented.
