Students attempt to create the longest equivalent fraction chain in the world!
Third Grade students at Jordan Hills Elementary have been working for 3 months to create paper links with equivalent fractions written on them. They hope to hear from the Guinness people before the end of the year with a record title in the world.
Students at Jordan Hills Elementary attempt to set a Guinness World Record! For 3 months, students in the third grade ALPS class have been working hard to create the longest equivalent fraction chain in the world. They submitted an application to the Guinness people but have not heard back from them yet. Regardless, they are moving forward each week to make about 1,000 paper chains with an equivalent fraction written on each link. Not only have they strengthened their math skills, but have also learned valuable lessons in perseverance, cooperation, and seeing a difficult goal through to the end. “We may not receive a Guinness World Record but these kids are record breakers in my opinion,” said Mrs. Sanders; their teacher. They have worked hard for success on this project; and learned that setting goals and working hard to reach them is a reward on its own.
